So next we should bring back the air raid sirens and bomb shelters.

They should be analog/DAB AM (535-1705 kHz) and weather (162.4-162.55 MHz) radios. The latter contain region-specific headers (SAME codes) to limit false alerts. Most people are much too dependent on smartphone only local commercial apps and IPAWS, and don't have a secondary channel for authoritative emergency notification like stationary weather radios used to serve. There's also no reason there couldn't be a compact, add-on weather radio for vehicles. For a generic vehicle AM/FM/wx radio, something like a Jensen Heavy Duty JHD22B head unit would work.

Unfortunately we use the proprietary HD Radio spec in the US. The company requires paying a license to use it and so many stations and manufacturers don't support it.

I wish we used DAB instead.

DAB sucks big time. Sound quality is 0.

I meant IBOCDAB which is the 47 CFR 73.402 (b) statute specifying HDR. You can thank corrupt politicians and their lobbyist buddies for mandating proprietary, pay-to-play shit. The whole thing is protectionist bullshit masquerading with an ostensible veneer of utility making homologation more expensive and complicated.

Also, do you speak for more than yourself or are you the royal "we"? Seems like pointless othering.
