I recently started using claude code and added in mysql mcp[0]
It's been pretty amazing to watch it figure out schemas, perform queries to understand data, but its definitely limited. It struggles to figure out relationships that aren't direct via foreign keys (I know bad design, but its a 20 year old database).
Overall it's shifted my opinion on LLMs and agents, I am sure Anthropic is going to spend significant effort improving these MCP connections. Long term when you add in developer tab access, network info, etc... It's going to be incredibly powerful.
