Apple's AI launch has been so, so messy. This, like the goggles, is, very clearly not ready for primetime. Worlds apart from their iPad/Watch/AirPods/Mac launches just a few years ago.
I feel like an older version of Apple would have gotten an AI skeptic like me fully locked in instead of deepening my skepticism.
The Watch launch was really bad. They tried to throw everything on it and didn’t give it a reason to exist. The third “apps” on it were slow and projections from the phone. They got it right by WatchOS 3.
The Mac launch and money losses is partially what got Jobs fired the first time. Apple was held afloat for years by the Apple //e.
I dunno, they've had some famously bad launches on the software/services side. Apple Maps? MobileMe? Siri?
MobileMe
Steve Jobs: “Can anyone tell me what MobileMe is supposed to do?”
Someone: “It’s suppose to do $x”
Steve Jobs: “so why the fuck doesn’t it do that?”
Let me know when the command "Siri, turn on lights, set them to red at 30%" works. Until then I do not care.
