Well, Geoff Hinton should get the prize for physiology instead. It's called “neural” networks after all.

Amazing, a Nobel Prize in Engineering!. Strange times indeed.

With all due respect for Hinton, this is f*cking ridiculous.

Let’s be honest, the connection between the Boltzmann machine and physics is about as real as Häagen-Dazs' ties to Denmark -- it’s either superficial or virtually nonexistent.

I'm super happy for Jeff Hinton. Well deserved.

                This is embarrassing.

But denigrating an old institution for fashion is trendy these days — just look at their Olympics behavior.

It's not like they could give it to the person who proved the existence of dark matter...

In fairness, "using physics" is a pretty low bar. It was plain vanilla combinatorics and network theory.

What a strange announcement. Seems like a joke.
